Healthy Dessert

This week I made a Pinterest inspired yogurt dessert! Simple & delicious!

Ingredients:

 Teddy Grahams
Yogurt (I used blueberry yogurt)
Fresh Fruit (I used blueberries)

Put about 10-15 Teddy Grahams in a plastic baggy and crush them into a crumb.

Place the crumbs in the bottom of a small dish.

Pour yogurt on top of crumbs.

Top with fresh fruit.

This healthy snack is delicious and just sweet enough to consider a dessert! The Teddy Grahams add a sweet and crunchy touch!

Braided Scarf

Directions to make a braided scarf:

Get 2 different colors of fabric. I got 1/2 yard of each color and it made 1 loop.

Fold each piece of fabric into a horseshoe and place overlapping one another.

Put your hand through the bottom loop and grab the ends of the opposite color fabric.

It should look like this..

Repeat this step.

Now, sew the two loose ends together.

And it should look like this!

If I were to do this again I would use softer fabric. The fabric I used was difficult to loop together and ended up being stiff. My final product did not turn out looking as cute as the one on Pinterest but I do think it has something to do with my fabric selection.

These are the best mashed potatoes that I've ever made! I made some alterations to the recipe such as leaving the skin on the potatoes and adding garlic powder but they still ended up being delicious!

Sunflower Wine Glass

This week I decided to get crafty and make a sunflower wine glass!

Supplies needed:

Acrylic Paint
Paint Brushes
Mod Podge
Wine Glass

First, paint the seeds on the glass.
Then add the first layer of petals.

Then dab brown paint over the seeds to create the middle portion of the flower. Layer the paint with lighter and darker shades to add dimension.

Next, add layers of dark and light yellows to create the petals.

Add black accents around each petal to define where they begin and end. This can also be done with a darker yellow as well.

Add green on the stem of the wine glass to create the stem of the flower

Finally, coat the outside of the glass in Mod Podge.

Fancy Ramen Noodles

When I was a freshman here at Pitt State, Ramen Noodles were my go-to late night snack when the D-Hall was closed. Now, Pinterest has a wide variety of Ramen recipes to spice up this bland noodle. After looking through all the recipes I tried a more simplified version of some of the recipes I found.

I started with 3 simple ingredients that could definitely be kept in a dorm fridge.

1. Ramen Noodle Soup (Chicken flavor of course)
2. Green onions (Can be bought pre-cut)
3. La Choy Teriyaki Sauce

I got my Ramen-friendly bowl, covered the block of noodles in water, and cooked for approximately 4 minutes in the microwave. Once your noodles are cooked (al dente), drain.

While your noodles are cooking, chop up your green onions into little wheels. If you do not have a knife available, then ripping them works as well.

Add the green onions to your cooked noodles.

Then add 3 Tablespoons of the Teriyaki sauce to the noodles.

Stir all ingredients together and ENJOY!

After eating Ramen Noodles for the first time in 3 years, I decided that the past is in the past and Ramen should be left behind forever. It was a good attempt to make an "adult" meal out of them.

Pinterest FAIL

I am sad to say that I suffered a Pinterest fail this week while attempting to make fudge. Here's the story...

I was browsing Pinterest to find the next addition to Pinteresting Creations when I came across picture after picture of fudge. YUM.

http://www.pinterest.com/pin/177329304053445901/
I went to the grocery store, got the ingredients, turned on some Pandora Radio and started cooking!

I got my ingredients all ready to go!

Starting cooking the butter, sugar, and evaporated milk!

Looks promising, right? Bubbly and delicious!

WRONG! It looks like ground beef, not fudge.

Another terrible view of the "fudge"

Suggestions:
  1. Don't cook it for 5 minutes! It says to in the recipe and I'm pretty sure that's what caused this disaster
  2. If you have a candy thermometer, use it.
  3. Once it is burnt, it is done, Don't try and save it!

Maybe I'll try again next week but for now this is a #PinterestFail

Pumpkin Sugar Cookies

In honor of fall and pumpkin flavored everything coming back in trend, I made
Pumpkin Sugar Cookies!

Beware: This recipe makes 60 cookies!
Here's the link to Pinterest I used for this one!

Ingredients:

1 cup butter, softened
½ cup canned pumpkin puree (NOT pumpkin pie filling)
1 cup sugar
⅔ cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
4 cups flour
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
½ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
Betty Crocker Cream Cheese Icing (I cheated and used this instead of making icing)

Directions:
  1. In a large bowl mix together butter, pumpkin, sugar, powdered sugar, vanilla, and eggs until smooth.
  2. In another bowl whisk together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, and pumpkin pie spice.
  3. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until incorporated. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 and lightly grease a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  5. Roll dough into 2-inch balls and place on baking sheet. Use the bottom of a tall glass (or jar) to flatten the dough balls to ½ inch thickness. Bake for 10-14 minutes until cookies start to look "dry". Allow to cool completely on the baking sheet.
  6. Store cookies in an airtight container (separate layers of cookies with wax paper or parchment paper) Frost cookies immediately before serving.

Be sure to flatten the dough before baking or you will end up with pumpkin flavored hockey pucks like this one!
